India - An Active Participant and Contributor to the Fourth Industrial Revolution - PM Narendra Modi 2019

What happened in the past is not in our hands, but what will happen in the future is firmly in our hands.

We often lament at missing the industrial revolutions in the past, but today it is a matter of pride that India is an active contributor to the fourth Industrial Revolution.

The extent and magnitude of our contribution will surprise the world.

I am also confident that India may have missed the bus during the first three industrial revolutions, but this time, it is a bus India has not only boarded but will also drive.

Innovation and Technology will form the bed-rock of this

resurgence.

The outcomes of our focus on Digital India, Start-up India, Make In India and Innovate India are converging and reaping rich dividends.

Do you know that while around four thousand patents were granted in 2013 and 2014, more than thirteen thousand patents were granted in 2017-18?

This is a three fold increase!

Similarly, do you know that the number of trade-marks registered has also gone up from around sixty eight thousand in 2013-14 to around two point five lakh in 2016-17.

This is almost a four fold increase!

You would be happy to know that today 44 percent of the startups registered in India are from tier 2 and tier3 cities?

A network of hundreds of Atal Tinkering Labs is coming up across the country and helping foster an atmosphere of innovation.

This will give a solid foundation for our students to help them become innovators of tomorrow.

I was impressed to see how a young girl from the snake charmer community was literally charming the mouse and making the most of digital India.

It is equally heartening to see how youth in villages are leveraging Wi-Fi and digital tools to help in clearing competitive exams.

It is technology which is bridging the gap between the haves and have-nots in our country.

Stories like these are writing a new chapter in the history of India.

The ideas , capture well the desirable characteristics of the future we will all have to live in – and how to get there in the light degradation of environment that we are observing and worried about.

There is  the question of balance in Nature. There is a relationship in different parts of Nature. If from the three sticks standing with mutual support, one is removed, the other two will automatically fall. The present economic system and system of production are fast disturbing this equilibrium of nature. As a result on the one hand new products are manufactured for satisfying ever increasing desires, on the other hand new problem arise every day, threatening the very existence of the entire humanity and
civilization.

It is essential, therefore, to use up that portion of the available natural resources which the nature will be able to recoup easily. When the fruits are taken, the fruit tree is not injured: it may even be helpful to the tree. However, in the effort to take a greater harvest from the land chemical fertilizers are used which in a few years time render the land altogether infertile. Lakhs of acres of land lie barren in America due to this factor.

How long this dance of destruction can go on ?

Companies or Businesses provide for depreciation fund to replace the machines when worn out. Then how can we neglect the depreciation fund for nature. From this point of view, it must be realized that the object of our economic system should be, not extravagant use of available resources, but a well regulated use. The physical objects necessary for a purposeful, happy and progressive life must be obtained. The Almighty has provided as much. It will not be wise, however, to engage into a blind rat-race of consumption and production as if man is created for the sole purpose of consumption. Engine needs coal for its proper working, but it has not been produced merely to consume coal.On the contrary it is only proper always to see that with the minimum coal consumption, maximum energy is produced. This is the economic view point. Keeping in view the aim of human life, we must endeavor to see how with the minimum of fuel, man proceeds to his goal with the maximum speed. Such a system alone can be called civilization. This system will not think of merely a single aspect of human life but of all its aspects including the ultimate aim. This system will not thrive on the exploitation of nature but will sustain nature and will in turn itself be nourished. Milking rather than exploitation should be our aim. The system should be such that overflow from nature is used to sustain our lives.
