Union govt intends to take up coal, lignite gasification projects on high priority: Coal secretary
India prioritizes coal and lignite gasification projects for energy transition. Financial assistance approved. Government supports a greener and cleaner future through initiatives like making land available, financing, and providing incentives. Coal India Limited drives transition to cleaner energy solutions. Net zero target by 2070.
The underground coal mining vision plan of CIL was released.
Shri Pralhad Joshi urged CIL to emerge as coal exporter in the next 2-3 years. The Minister complemented Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries for achieving record coal production and said that sustainable mining needs to be ensured while working towards Aatmanirbhar India in coal sector. Shri Joshi urged to ensure safety in coal mines with utmost priority while focusing on stepped up production.
CIL Gearing Up For 1 Billion Tonne Coal Production Mark
Coal India Limited (CIL), the Maharatna coal mining monolith had unveiled its roadmap, of strategies to be adopted, to attain the 1 Billion Tonne (BT) coal production mark by 2019-20. With the projected coal demand of the country hovering around 1,200 Million Tonnes (MTs) by 2019-20, at an envisaged growth rate of 7%, CIL is expected to chip in 1 BT, of which, 908 MTs is the expected contribution from the identified projects. This was stated by Shri S Bhattacharya, CMD , Coal India Ltd(CIL) while briefing the media here today. He further added that the process of identification of projects to share the balance quantity, to top up the 1 BT mark, is also underway. The two CIL subsidiaries Sambalpur based Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and the Bilaspur based South Eastern Coalfields Limited are expected to play a pivotal role in CIL’s quest of attaining the 1 BT production with 250 MTs and 240 MTs respectively , Shri Bhattacharya added. Earlier , Shri Anil Swarup , Coal Secretary said that coal ministry is committed to increase coal production in the country.
Shri Bhattacharya pointed out the key issues that the coal miner is basically relying on are timely completion of three critical railway lines and timely land acquisition and green clearances.
Elaborating further, Shri Bhattacharya said that important actions initiated are creation of Coal Project Monitoring Group (CPMG) portal for regular monitoring of project related issues with different ministries and State Authorities. To overcome the hurdle of coal evacuation, CIL had decided to purchase 2000 railway wagons from its own kitty for which a specific fund had been earmarked. The coordination with Railways for implementation has already been initiated. In a move to synergize its efforts SECL already has 2 Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) with State governments to develop rail network including last mile connectivity, involving Railways. More number of SPVS are on immediate anvil towards grounding railways infrastructure with Railways and concerned State Govt. participations, Shri Bhattacharya stated.
Shri Bhattacharya said that the strategies for future include Technology Upgradation in Opencast Mines with high capacity equipment , Operator independent Truck Dispatch System, Vehicle tracking system using GPS/GPRS, Coal Handling Plants (CHPs) and SILOS for Faster Loading and monitoring using Laser Scanners. As far as productivity improvement in Underground mines is concerned, Shri Bhattacharya said that the steps taken by CIL will include introduction of Continuous Miner Technology in large scale, Long-wall Technology at selected places, Man Riding system in major mines and Use of Tele monitoring Techniques.
CIL is also introducing a number of systems improvements that would help the company in realizing its challenging target. Use of ICT, remote sensing geophysical technologies and proper monitoring and evaluation methodologies will be the key features, Shri Bhattacharya added.
Make in India initiative is now almost an abandoned project of Modi Government.
Why it failed to take of. The Government's refusal to invest in public sector. The well known Keynesian economic principle says that when private sector is reluctant to invest, Government must come forward. The BJP government ignored it. It made more preparations to sell PSUs than to develop them and invest in new PSUs. A policy failure. An attitude failure.

Making a strong pitch for increased investment in various sectors in India, the Prime Minister outlined his vision for “Start-Up India, Stand-Up India.” He said that along with the public sector and private sector, he was laying emphasis to individual start-ups and entrepreneurs – whom he referred to as the “personal sector.” He said start-ups and innovation had been at the heart of the IT revolution.
The Prime Minister mentioned some specific sectors where there was great scope for innovative solutions in India, including insurance products for the agriculture sector and the health sector. He mentioned defence manufacturing, electronic goods manufacturing, renewable energy equipment, railways and metros, Clean India and Digital India as sectors where immense potential existed for investment. He said 50 million new houses by 2022, broadband connectivity for 600,000 villages, doubling of railway capacity and 175 Gigawatts of renewable energy generation were some of the concrete targets his Government had set, which created huge investment opportunities.

Prime Minister to Launch ‘Make in India’ Initiative
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will launch “Make in India” initiative on 25th September 2014 from Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The launch will be at both national level, state level and in Missions abroad. The ‘Make in India’ initiative has its origin in the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech where he gave a clarion call to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Zero Defect; Zero Effect’ policy. State Governments, Business Chambers, Indian Missions aboard are playing an active role in the launch of the initiative.
The Government is committed to chart out a new path wherein business entities are extended red carpet welcome in a spirit of active cooperation. Invest India will act as the first reference point for guiding foreign investors on all aspects of regulatory and policy issues and to assist them in obtaining regulatory clearances. The Government is closely looking into all regulatory processes with a view to making them simple and reducing the burden of compliance on investors.
A dedicated cell has been created to answer queries from business entities through a newly created web portal (www.makeinindia.com). While an exhaustive set of FAQs on this portal will help the investor find instant answers to their general queries, the back-end support team of the cell would be answering specific queries within 72 hours. A pro-active approach will be deployed to track visitors for their geographical location, interest and real time user behaviour. Subsequent visits will be customised for the visitor based on the information collected. Visitors registered on the website or raising queries will be followed up with relevant information and newsletter. Investor facilitation cell will provide assistance to the foreign investors from the time of their arrival in the country to the time of their departure. The initiative will also target top companies across sectors in identified countries.
The ‘Make in India’ initiative also aims at identifying select domestic companies having leadership in innovation and new technology for turning them into global champions. The focus will be on promoting green and advanced manufacturing and helping these companies to become an important part of the global value chain.
The Government has identified 25 key sectors in which our country has the potential of becoming a world leader. The Prime Minister will be releasing separate brochures for these sectors along with a general brochure. The brochures covering sectors like automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, aviation, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways among others will provide details of growth drivers, investment opportunities, sector specific FDI and other policies and related agencies.
Since the new Government took over, a series of initiatives have been taken to revitalise the industrial sector in general and manufacturing sector in particular. To mention a few:
ü The process of applying for Industrial License and Industrial Entrepreneur Memorandum has been made online on the e-Biz website 24*7;
ü A vast number of Defence items have been de-licensed;
ü The validity of Industrial license has been extended to three years;
ü With a view to providing flexibility in working hours and increased intake of apprentices for on the job training, the Government has decided to amend a number of labour laws;
ü An advisory has been sent to all Departments/ State Governments to simplify and rationalize regulatory environment which includes:
· on-line filing of all returns in a unified form;
· no inspection without the approval of the Head of the Department, etc.
Recently the Foreign Direct Investment policy has been liberalized. 100% FDI under automatic route has been permitted in construction, operation and maintenance in specified Rail Infrastructure projects; FDI in Defence liberalized from 26% to 49%. In cases of modernization of state-of-art proposals, FDI can go up to 100%; the norms for FDI in the Construction Development sector are being eased.
The government is committed to improving the physical infrastructure. Development of dedicated freight corridors and investment in improving our ports and airports are underway. These corridors would house Industrial agglomerations along with smart cities. The private sector would be playing a significant role in these developmental works.
For the manufacturing sector to take advantage of the improved physical infrastructure, the need for having a strong human capital is recognized. Government’s effort would be to equip the working age population with the right kinds of skill so that the manufacturing sector finds them employable. One of the first decisions that the new Government has taken is to set up a separate Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Various prominent National and International industry leaders are likely to attend the programme to launch the campaign along with Ministers, senior officials, Ambassadors and opinion leaders.

This is to inform you that CII will be organizing sessions and live telecast of the launch of “Make in India” Campaign initiated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. On 15th August 2014, Prime Minister of India invited Global Manufacturers to come and “Make in India” and sell it to the world with an aim to strike a balance between imports and exports and create jobs. The PM also advocated that “Make in India” must stand for quality products and encouraged domestic manufacturers to adopt a policy of “zero defect, zero effect” – make top of the line products with no ill effect on the environment.
To take the same forward, the Prime Minister is launching “Make in India” campaign on 25th Sept 2014 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. In this regard, we will be organizing a Live Telecast of the ‘Make in India’ Campaign by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 25th September 2014

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Government has approved 21 electronics manufacturing clusters so far partnership with two industry groups.

Govt. received investment proposals worth Rs. 65,000 cr. and approved proposals worth Rs.9,000 cr. so far under M-SIPS.
Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) Scheme now provides financial assistance for creating world-class infrastructure for electronics manufacturing units and Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS) provides financial incentives to offset disability and attract investments in the manufacturing of electronics products (including telecom).
Electronic Development Fund to promote Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM)has been set up Promotion of Electronic Manufacturing Clusters: foundation stone laid at Bhopal and Jabalpur. In principle approval given to 16 more clusters.
Giving importance to the skill development in Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector, the Prime Minister again took time to lay foundation stone for National Institute for Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) center Ranchi.
According to World Travel & Tourism Council, the industry will grow exponentially to create 8 million additional jobs in India over the next 10 years. The contribution of the Hospitality industry to GDP is expected to rise from 8.6% (US$117.9bn) in 2010 to 9.0%(US$330.1bn) by 2020.
The Travel & Tourism industry today employs over 50 million people in India and is the largest employer after the government. Between now and 2020, the contribution of the travel and tourism economy to employment in India is expected to rise by almost 20% from 49 million to 58 million jobs. In 2020, one in every 9.6 jobs in India will be in the hospitality industry.
FEEs in rupee terms show an increase of 4% in January 2015 over corresponding period last year
Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs):
FTAs during the Month of January 2015 was 7.90 lakh as compared to FTAs of 7.59 lakh during the month of January 2014 and 7.20 lakh in January 2013. There has been a growth of 4.0% in January 2015 over January 2014.
Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from Tourism in India in rupee terms and in US$ terms
FEEs during the month of January 2015 were `11,529 crore as compared to `11,082 crore in January 2014 and `10,785 crore in January 2013.
The growth rate in FEEs in rupee terms during January 2015 over January 2014 was 4.0% as compared to 2.8% in January 2014 over January 2013.
FEEs in US$ terms during the month of January 2015 were US$ 1.854 billion as compared to FEEs of US$ 1.786 billion during the month of January 2014.

There are two important dates April 13, 1913 and May 3, 1913 in the Indian Film History. On 13 April, 1913, Dada Saheb Phalke showed his movie Raja Harish Chandra in Olympia Theatre with to some known people. That day was Saturday. For that reason, that day is important day.
Dada Saheb Phalke released the movie in Caronation Theatre of Mumbai at May 3, 1913 for public viewing. A great response of audience for that film gave birth to Indian film industry.
Till 1930, producers focused on religious movies. Lanka Dahan (1917) & Kalia Mardaan (1919) were good hits.
Aalam Aara is the first movie with voice in the film. Producer Aardeshir Irani made this movie.
In 1935 Devdas with K.L. Saigal acting as here was produced.
During 1950s, three very successful actors emerged: Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar.
Subsequent to them, the film industry had a super star in Rajesh Khanna.
Sholay became the highest grossing film.
Amitabh Bachchan became a super star.
New generation of heroes appeared with Shah Rukh Khan, Amir Khan and Salman Khan.
In the recent period a successful movie is collecting Rs. 100 crore.
Telugu Film Industry
Regional film industry also prospered in India. Madras became the center for films in South Indian languages.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao and N.T. Rama Rao emerged as two popular heroes for a considerable period of time.
Shobhan Babu and Krishna took over from the earlier superheroes. Subsequent to them Chiranjeevi emerged as the top hero. Now he is also not acting in films and the next generation is now acting. Junior NTR, a grandson of NTR with close resemblance to him is one of the popular actors now.
Tamil Film Industry
M.G. Ramachandran and Shivaji Ganeshan became super heroes of Tamil film industry. Right now, Rajinikanth is the superhero.
Kannada Film Industry
Raj Kumar was the super hero of Kannad film industry.
