Are Political Parties Learning? Are They Informing Public About Their Learning? Should They Publicly Acknowledge Their Errors and Mistakes?

 

This is a reply of mine to a post on Twitter.

"Every time a party is defeated in an election it is ilaaz time for that party."

Every defeat must make a politician and political party reflect and think. In democracy it is essential.

Every political party says, we are doing internal review of our defeat. Are they making public, their significant learnings? Should they acknowledge their past mistakes?

BJP was defeated in some state assembly elections? What is their learning?

Congress was defeated in many state assembly elections? Also in many parliamentary elections? What was the learning? Have they acknowledge any mistakes.

Publicly acknowledging the mistake with a promise not to repeat them will reduce the burden on the party. Congress party is even criticized today for emergency? Is it a mistake? Has the party promised not to do it in the future?

What about corruption in India? To what extent Congress Party which ruled the country for many many responsible for it? What is it doing today about it?

Is corruption less in BJP rule? Or is it much more now in absolute terms as the prices of all  things have gone up?

Is BJP for communal harmony? Or is it doing things to make Hindus more positive towards it? Is the resulting hate feelings good for the country? Or is it good for BJP in elections?

Results may tell something. But are parties willing to learn and acknowledge mistakes?
