Women on Shopfloor in India- 2012

In the factories, in the machine shops and fabrication shops the presence of women was almost negligible. But the trend is chaning now in India. Last week, I visited the TVS Motors plant at Hosur and there were women working in the machine shop. Of course the job involved was only loading and unloading light weight work pieces. But they are working on costly CNC machines and handing motor cycle parts.

Today on 3.1.2012, Economic Times carried an article with the title "Women now break into the shopfloor."

Anant Talaulicar, CMD Cummins talks of 25% target for women by 2011 and 50% target in the next five years.

Kirloskar Brothers is also increasing women on shopfloor.
