Hindi Film Industry


In 1896, one of the Lumiere Brothers came to Bombay and demonstrated their movie equipment.

There are two important dates April 13, 1913 and May 3, 1913 in the Indian Film History. On 13 April, 1913, Dada Saheb Phalke showed  his movie Raja Harish Chandra in Olympia Theatre with to some known people. That day was Saturday. For that reason, that day is important day.


Dada Saheb Phalke released the movie in Caronation Theatre of Mumbai at May 3, 1913 for public viewing. A great response of audience for that film gave birth to Indian film industry.

Till 1930, producers focused on religious movies. Lanka Dahan (1917) & Kalia Mardaan (1919) were good hits.

Aalam Aara is the first movie with voice in the film. Producer Aardeshir Irani made this movie.

In 1935 Devdas with K.L. Saigal acting as here was produced.

During 1950s, three very successful actors emerged: Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar.

Subsequent to them, the film industry had a super star in Rajesh Khanna.

Sholay became the highest grossing film.

Amitabh Bachchan became a super star.

New generation of heroes appeared with Shah Rukh Khan, Amir Khan and Salman Khan.

In the recent period a successful movie is collecting Rs. 100 crore.


Telugu Film Industry

Regional film industry also prospered in India. Madras became the center for films in South Indian languages.

Akkineni Nageswara Rao and N.T. Rama Rao emerged as two popular heroes for a considerable period of time.

Shobhan Babu and Krishna took over from the earlier superheroes. Subsequent to them Chiranjeevi emerged as the top hero. Now he is also not acting in films and the next generation is now acting. Junior NTR, a grandson of NTR with close resemblance to him is one of the popular actors now.

Tamil Film Industry

M.G. Ramachandran and Shivaji Ganeshan became super heroes of Tamil film industry. Right now, Rajinikanth is the superhero.

Kannada Film Industry

Raj Kumar was the super hero of Kannad film industry.
