Urban India contributes 67 per cent to India's GDP. Occupies only 7 per cent land. The population can be 32% of India.

Rural India contribute 33 per cent to GDP. Has 68 per cent population.

Urban GDP per 1% population  =  67/32
Rural GDP per 1% population =  33/68

We can say incomes in urban areas are four times that of rural areas.

Interesting facts - July 2013

A decade ago agriculture was about half of rural GDP, but it is now only about one-fourth The transition from agriculture to industry and services has been rapid in rural India over the past decade.


Almost 75% of the new factories during the last decade came up in rural India, contributing to 70% of all new manufacturing jobs created. As a result, manufacturing GDP in rural India witnessed an 18% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during 1999-09, and is now 55% of India’s manufacturing GDP.
