ఇక్ష్వాకు వంశ ప్రభవో రామో నామ జనైః శ్రుతః

నియతా౭౭త్మా మహా వీర్యో ద్యుతిమాన్ ధృతిమా న్వశీ.  8  

इक्ष्वाकुवंशप्रभव: born in the family of king Ikshvaku, (descendant of)

राम: नाम known as Rama (one who delights others), 

जनै: by people, 

श्रुत: is heard,

 नियतात्मा steady natured (meaning thereby immutable form), 

महावीर्य: incomprehensible prowess, 

द्युतिमान् selfeffulgent,  - having dyuti

धृतिमान् selfcommanding, - having dhruti

 वशी subjecting the senses (subjecting the entire world under his control).

బుద్ధిమా న్నీతిమాన్ వాగ్మీ శ్రీమాన్ శత్రు నిబర్హణః
విపులాంసో మహా బాహుః కమ్బు గ్రీవో మహా హనుః  9

बुद्धिमान् great intellectual, 

नीतिमान् person with excellent  ethical behaviour and knowledge 

वाग्मी proficient in speech, 

श्रीमान् possessing vast wealth, knows how to create wealth,  helps people in creating wealth.

शत्रुनिबर्हण: destroyer of foes (sins), 

विपुलांस: broad shouldered, 

महाबाहु: strongarmed, 

कम्बुग्रीव: possessing conchshaped neck, 

महाहनु: having prominent and strong cheeks.

మహో రస్కో మహేష్వాసో గూఢ జత్రు రరిందమః
ఆజాను బాహుః సుశిరాః సులలాటః సువిక్రమః   10

महोरस्क: having a broad chest, 

महेष्वासः armed with a great bow (meaning thereby having a body strong enough to carry a powerful bow), 

गूढजत्रुः has fleshy collar bones, 

अरिन्दमः is destroyer of foes (sins), 

आजानुबाहु: knee-long arms, 

सुशिराः with a good head (head with noble qualities), 

सुललाटः has a large and beautiful forehead, 

सुविक्रमः valiant

        
సమః సమ విభక్తా౭ఙ్గః స్నిగ్ధ వర్ణః ప్రతాపవాన్
పీన వక్షా విశాలా౭క్షో లక్ష్మీవాన్ శుభ లక్షణః  11

समः neither too tall nor too short, 

समविभक्ताङ्ग: has wellproportioned limbs, 

स्निग्धवर्णः has shining complexion, 

प्रतापवान् is mighty and powerful, 

पीनवक्षा: strong welldeveloped chest, 

विशालाक्षः has expansive eyes, 

लक्ष्मीवान् lustrous body, 

शुभलक्षणः has auspicious qualities (according to science of palmistry).

ధర్మజ్ఞః సత్య సంధశ్చ ప్రజానాం చ హితే రతః
యశస్వీ జ్ఞానసంపన్నః  శుచిర్వశ్యః సమాధిమాన్ 12

धर्मज्ञ: knower of duties of life, 

सत्यसन्ध: firm in doing his true duties. firm in protecting truth.

प्रजानाम् for his subjects,

 हिते doing good, 

रतः intent on, enjoys doing to good for people, his kingdom people as well as others.

यशस्वी renowned, 

ज्ञानसम्पन्नः omniscient, has lot of knowledge

शुचिः pure and devout, 

वश्यः obedient to elders (or accessible to those who are dependent on him), 

समाधिमान् deeply meditating on the means of protecting those who took refuge in him. Uses deep meditation to find solutions to problems to be solved.

   
ప్రజాపతి స్సమ శ్రీమాన్ ధాతా రిపు నిషూదనః
రక్షితా జీవలోకస్య ధర్మస్య పరిరక్షితా   13

प्रजापतिसमः equal to prajapati - the person who is a primary person for the development of many creatures and beings in the universe, 

श्रीमान्  a very wealthy person

धाता sustainer of this entire kingdom, 

रिपुनिषूदनः destroyer of enemies, 

रक्षिता protector, 

जीवलोकस्य of all living beings, 

धर्मस्य of code of morals, it includes professions of all types

परिरक्षिता protector.

రక్షితా స్వస్య ధర్మస్య స్వజనస్య రక్షితా                  
వేద వేదాఙ్గ తత్త్వజ్ఞో ధనుర్వేదే చ నిష్ఠితః  14

स्वस्य of his own,

 धर्मस्य duties of a king, 

रक्षिता protector,

 स्वजनस्य च of his own subjects, 

रक्षिता protector,

 वेदवेदाङ्गतत्त्वज्ञ: knowledgeable in the true nature of vedas and vedangas, 

धनुर्वेदे च in military science, one of the upavedas (a great archer), 

निष्ठित: accomplished.

                    

సర్వ శాస్త్రా౭ర్థ తత్త్వజ్ఞో స్మృతిమాన్ ప్రతిభానవాన్
సర్వ లోకప్రియః సాధుర౭దీనాత్మా విచక్షణః   15

सर्वशास्त्रार्थतत्त्वज्ञ: knower of the true meaning of all scriptures, (In the last shloka - vedas and vedangas were mentioned. In this shloka other shastras are mentioned. We have to understand the extent of knowledge to be acquired by the truly learned persons.)

स्मृतिमान् - has infalliable retentive memory, 

प्रतिभानवान् -  is talented (possessing brightness of conception - intelligence quotieint IQ), 

सर्वलोकप्रियः is beloved of all people, 

साधु: welldisposed and courteous (even towards those who have done harm), 

अदीनात्मा unperturbed mind (even in times of extreme grief - recovers from grief in appropriate time), 

विचक्षणः has dicrimination (is circumspect in doing right things in right time).

సర్వదా౭భిగతః సద్భిః సముద్ర ఇవ సిన్ధుభిః
ఆర్యః సర్వ సమ శ్చైవ సదైక ప్రియ దర్శనః  16

समुद्रः sea, 

सिन्धुभिः the rivers, 

इव like, 

सद्भिः good persons, 

सर्वदा ever, 

अभिगतः is approachable, 

आर्यः man of virtue,

 सर्वसमः च एव having equitable dispostition towards all, 

सदैकप्रियदर्शनः always has delightful countenance.

  
స చ సర్వ గుణోపేతః కౌసల్యా౭౭నన్ద వర్ధనః
సముద్ర ఇవ గామ్భీర్యే ధైర్యేణ హిమవా నివ  17

कौसल्यानन्दवर्धन: he, who is enhancing the joys of Kausalya, 

स: च he also, 

सर्वगुणोपेत: endowed with all virtues, 

गाम्भीर्ये in depth of his thoughts, 

समुद्र: इव like a sea, 

धैर्येण in fortitude, 

हिमवान् इव like Himavat mountain.

విష్ణునా సదృశో వీర్యే సోమవత్ ప్రియదర్శనః
కాలా౭గ్నిసదృశః క్రోధే క్షమయా పృథివీ సమః  18

वीर्ये In prowess,

 विष्णुना सदृशः similar to Visnu, 

सोमवत् in appearance like the Moon, 

प्रियदर्शनः pleasing to the sight, 

क्रोधे in anger, 

कालाग्निसदृशः like the all-consuming fire, 

क्षमया in patience, 

पृथिवीसमः equal to earth,

            
ధనదేన సమ స్త్యాగే సత్యే ధర్మ ఇవా౭పరః
తమేవం గుణ సంపన్నం రామం సత్య పరాక్రమమ్         19

 त्यागे in charity, 

धनदेन समः like Kubera, 

सत्ये in truth (telling truth, supporting truth)

अपरः धर्मः इव he is like another  Sun.

एवं गुणसम्पन्नम् him who was possessing all such good qualities, 

सत्यपराक्रमम् him who had not a vain prowess

तं रामम् Sri Rama

సంక్షిప్త రామాయణము - వాల్మీకి విరచితము. 

రామాయణము పూర్తిగా సంక్షిప్తముగా  బాల కాన్డలోని ప్రథమ సర్గలో మహర్షి వాల్మికి చేత చెప్పబడినది.
