1967
General elections were held in India between 17 and 21 February 1967 to elect 520 of the 523 members of the fourth Lok Sabha.
There was an increase of 15 from the previous session of Lok Sabha.[1] Elections to State Assemblies were also held simultaneously.

In this general election, the speeches by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi contained many statements which were in bad taste. For a Prime Minister who gave the slogan 400 par, the criticism of opposition party's manifesto in terms of creating distrust about its commitment to the country and its progress is uncalled for. A Nation's unity is not enhanced by describing political parties as doing harm to the country. The policies may give higher returns on lower returns regarding various objectives of the countries. But no party would be working to the detriment in collusion with foreign elements.
Also, criticising each government in opposition rules states as corrupt and talking of double engine government is not appropriate.

Parliamentary Democracy In India: Parliamentary Democracy In India by Dr LM Singhvi: Understanding India's Democratic System

The Indian Parliament exercises influence rather than power. Its functions lie primarily in processes of consultation and articulation and in the audit and scrutiny of the operations of the government. The substance of the power resides in the cabinet; and more particularly; in the office of the prime minister; but the sanction for that political power is provided by the representative principle embodied in the Parliament.
