Jaipur Rally, 11 September 2013

Thousands of  Muslim men wearing skull caps and women wearing Burqas attending a massive BJP rally that was addressed by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP state minority cell president Aamin Pathan had said that participants were told that they could wear a Burqa or skull cap if they wished. There was no objection for it. Pathan said the rally was attended by about 3 lakh people and about 25,000 of them were Muslims. Of this, an estimated 4,000 women must have come in burqas.

Of his community's seeming shift toward the BJP, Amin Pathan, BJP's minority morcha chief, said that his party works for all communities, including Muslims. "Unlike Congress, we don't believe in community or caste specific politics. There are 36 major communities in Rajasthan. Muslims are one of them. BJP sees all of them as equal," said Amin.
