The BJP leader requested Singh to listen to the grievances of the food business operators, who demand that the government should defer enforcement of compulsory registration for “at least one year” and constitute a special task force to make an in-depth study of the Food Safety and Standard Act and its rules. An opportunity of personal hearing may  be granted to the federation to place their views in person before the committee and their difficulties to pursue the trade are to be understood by the government.

Russia has honoured three Indians, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of parliament Murli Manohar Joshi,  and  managing director of the joint Russian-Indian venture BrahMos Aerospace, A. Sivathanu Pillai with the Order of Friendship. Lokesh Chandra, director of the International Academy of Indian Culture, was awarded the Pushkin Medal.

Biography

He was born in Nainital on 5 January 1934.

 Joshi had his early education in Chandpur, District Bijnore and Almora ( Uttarakhand). He completed his B.Sc. from Meerut College and M.Sc. from Allahabad University.  He did his doctorate from Allahabad University. The subject of his doctoral thesis was Spectroscopy. He published a research paper in Physics in Hindi, which was a first of its kind. After completing his PhD, Joshi started teaching Physics at Allahabad University.

He came in contact with the RSS in Delhi at a young age and took part in the Cow Protection Movement in 1953–54, in the Kumbh Kisan Andolan of UP in 1955, demanding halving of land revenue assessment. During the Emergency period (1975–1977) in India, Joshi was in jail from 26 June 1975 until the Lok Sabha elections in 1977.

In 1977 elections, he was elected Member of Parliament from Almora.  Joshi was elected as the General Secretary of the Janata Parliamentary Party. Joshi became part of the Bharatiya Janata Party or the BJP in 1980. Joshi first looked after the Central Office as a General Secretary and later became Party Treasurer. As General Secretary of BJP, he was directly in charge of Bihar, Bengal and North-Eastern States.

Murli Manohar Joshi shouldered the responsibility of President of BJP for one term and during that term he went on Ratha Yatra in the entire country culminating in hoisting the Indian flag at Srinagar. The Yatra started on 11 December 1991

He also served as the home minister for 13 days government in 1996. In the subsequent governments of
  Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Joshi served as the Human Resource Development Minister in the cabinet.


Joshi was a three-term M.P. from Allahabad but  he was defeated in the Lok Sabha elections of May, 2004. He won election to the 15th Lok Sabha from Varanasi as a BJP candidate.Dr.Joshi was the  Manifesto Preparation Board of the BJP in 2009. For 2014 elections also he was given the same responsibility of preparing the Manifesto.
